Le Pen Concedes Defeat

Turnout High in Second Round

Paris, France - Early legislative elections were held in France on June 30, 2024, with a second round to be held on July 7. All 577 members of the 17th National Assembly were chosen in the election.

Exit polls projected a victory for the centrist coalition led by President Emmanuel Macron, with the far-right National Rally led by Marine Le Pen conceding defeat. Voter turnout was high, with over 60% of eligible voters casting ballots.

The elections were the first since Macron's surprise decision in May to call for early elections three weeks after winning re-election as President.

The National Assembly is France's lower house of parliament and has the power to approve or reject laws proposed by the government. The outcome of the elections will determine whether Macron will have a majority in parliament to support his agenda.
